I would like to add one more advantage of a web-based CRM if it is not obvious to others: total cost of ownership. When you pay for the web-based solution, the provider takes care of all the maintenance, updates, and security checks that an IT staff would be responsible for. The provider knows their application from top to bottom, so it will be easier and faster for them to troubleshoot any problem. The IT staff usually will not have such thorough knowledge of the desktop solution unless they have had intense training (=more money) in the software. So the TCO for a desktop solution must include some of the cost of having an IT staff.
